The History Of
MULDRAUGH HILL BAPTIST CHURCH
(September 2009 through August 2014)
Several
members of the church went on a trip to Cumberland Falls on September
10th, 2009. Three couples in the group had their honeymoons at Lake
Cumberland several years ago. It was a beautiful day and a fun trip for
all.
On Sunday, October 25th, Operation Christmas Child Shoebox of Muldraugh
Hill Baptist Church had a dinner and a dedication service. Donations were
accepted to help with the shipping cost of the shoeboxes. These shoeboxes,
numbering 474, were packed by volunteers prior to the dinner. It costs
$7.00 to ship each box. The donations collected before, during, and since
the dinner now total $3,050. Praise God! This is just $268 shy of reaching
the goal. Thank you to everyone who has helped with this project in any
way, including volunteer work and providing monetary funding.
Muldraugh Hill Baptist Church celebrated its 135th Anniversary November
4th - 8th. A reprint of the cookbook, originally printed in 1981, was
completed by popular demand and made available for purchase during the
anniversary event. The schedule of speakers for the 135th Anniversary were
as follows:
-
November 4th (Wednesday at 7:00 pm) - Rev.
Harold Meers
-
November 5th (Thursday at 7:00 pm) -
Rev. Earl Pike
-
November 6th (Friday at 7:00 pm) - Rev. Steve Skaggs
-
November 7th (Saturday at 7:00 pm) - The Polston Family
-
November 8th (Sunday Morning Worship at 11:00 am) -
Rev. Victor Stansbury
Four
baptisms were performed (Alyssa Farmer, Caroline Farmer,
Will Farmer, and Marcus Moore). The service was followed
with a potluck meal and pictorial video.
November 11, 2009 Business Meeting -
-
The Heating/Air Condition System has been installed in the parsonage
as discussed last month.
-
Bro. Vic and Joan
attended the Southern Baptist Convention 11/9/09 to 11/11/09.
-
Prior to the 135th Anniversary Celebration, it was brought to the
attention of the deacons that some of the shut-ins had inquired about
the ability to video-tape the services so they could be viewed at
home. It was decided to make a trial run with some borrowed equipment
from David England and Ernest Carol Taylor. David
supplied the video camera and tripod and Ernest supplied the DVD
Recorder. The supplied equipment was connected to the existing sound
system. David, Ernest, and Sam Graham taped each
of the five services. There was a 1-minute glitch in the first service
but the rest of them presented a satisfactory product. The trial
demonstrated some issues that had to be worked out such as making sure
the microphones used were connected to Muldraugh Hill Baptist Churches
sound system. Because of the success of this trial run, a motion was
made at the Business Meeting to purchase equipment to make this an
ongoing process of each service. It was voted on and approved to have
Ernest Taylor purchase the video camera, tripod, a stand-alone
3-DVD-at-a-time recorder/copier for an estimated cost of $1,148.00
plus obtain 300 blank DVD's, 100 blank CD's, and paper or plastic
sleeves for the recorded product. The process of recording each
service would be permanently started as soon as the supplies were
purchased and put in place.
The "Hanging of the Greens" service was held on November 29th in the
Evening Worship Service. It took just a few minutes
to see the church sanctuary come alive with greenery and festive
atmosphere. Everyone brought a non-perishible food item to place under the
Christmas tree. Those items are to be taken to the Lebanon Community
Center to help the less fortunate in the community. Finger foods were
brought in order to have a time of fellowship after the service in the
Fellowship Hall.
December 9, 2009 Business Meeting -
-
The only new business was the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2010
with a total of $186,995.82. It was approved without changes.
The Annual White Christmas Offering was collected on December 20th, 2009
during the Morning Worship Service. The total amount received was $17,045.
Members filed by a little white wooden church to deposit their gift. The
church choir, led by Jim Sabo, Sr., presented the Christmas
performance entitled, "A Carol to the King". A special love offering of
appreciation was collected and given to the following for their hard work
and dedication the past year: Bro. Vic and Joan, the Church
Secretary (Debbie Farris), the Song Leader (Jim Sabo, Sr.),

5 inches of snow and hazardous road conditions.
Muldraugh Hill Baptist Church had its Annual Church-wide Birthday
Celebration Party on February 7, 2010 to celebrate everyone's birthday
through the year. The party was held after the Morning Worship Service in
the Fellowship Hall. Jim Sabo, Sr. led the congregation in the
song, "Happy Birthday to You" at the close of the Morning Worship Service
and David England said the prayer of thanks for the meal and
Benediction. The meal was potluck with the church furnishing the meat.
Everyone had a good time of fellowship and great food. Donations were
deposited in a box called "The Birthday Bank" which was used in the old
church. Members were asked to put a penny (or more if they wished) in the
box for each year of age the individual is this year.(This was the way it
was done many years ago.) The money collected is used for "God's Closet"
in Manchester, Kentucky.
The winter of 2010 proved to be a very snowy season. There were several
snow storms producing 2 to 10 inches of snow in this region of Kentucky.
Wednesday night services, including Business Meeting, had to be cancelled
on February 10, 2010 due to the hazardous road conditions.
The monthly Business Meeting was held on February 17, 2010. It was voted
by those members in attendance to participate in the Kentucky Baptist
Convention "Buckets of Hope" project for the people of Haiti to
help them recover from the devastation caused by the Jan. 12 earthquake.
Over 100,000 people lost their lives and many were made homeless. The
“Bucket of Hope" consisted of a plastic five-gallon bucket packed with
selected foodstuffs (peanut butter, cooking oil, sugar, flour, rice,
spaghetti, and beans). For approximately $30 the materials could be
purchased and assembled in a "Bucket of Hope." In addition those
participating were requested to include a $10 cash contribution, placed in
an envelope and attached to the lid of the bucket, to offset the cost of
transporting the relief buckets to Haiti. The church voted to send 10 of
these buckets. The buckets were sent to the convention to be dispersed to
those in need in Haiti.
The monthly Business Meeting was held March 10, 2010. The Messengers for
the Associational Meeting to be held the last Monday in March will be:

approved that a special offering be taken up for Jody Yates, who just
experienced a house fire and lost everything.

during the Morning Worship Service on March 28, 2010. The choir is
directed by Jim Sabo, Sr.
There were 146 in attendance for Sunday School on Easter Sunday, April 4,
2010. An estimated 290 people attended the Morning Worship Service.
The monthly Business Meeting was held April 9, 2010. A decision was made
to have the Transportation Committee look into the price for a van that
would be easier to get into without steps.
Men's Day was celebrated on April 11, 2010. The men and boys met at 9:15
for breakfast. Then the men lead all of the services for the Morning and
Evening Worship Services along with the the Sunday School hour. The choir
was comprised only of men and they performed a song at the beginning of
the Morning Worship Service. The choir was led by Jim Sabo, Sr.

music, Carrie Fowler gave the Children's Church message, Amanda
Livers performed a solo and rang the 11:00 bell, 6 youth collected the
offering, 5 performed a song to Sign Language, and Erin Cox
delivered the message.
The Kentucky Baptist Convention asked that
April 18, 2010 be designated for High Attendance Sunday School. Muldraugh
Hill participated in this and reported 133 in Sunday School.
Mother's Day was celebrated on May 9, 2010. The mothers enjoyed a
breakfast and time of fellowship before Sunday School. During the Morning
Worship Service, each mother present was presented with a Muldraugh Hill
Baptist Church mug. Tracy Cochran did a reading. Special recognition was
given to the "Oldest Mother Present" (Frances Rucker), the
"Youngest Mother Present" (Brittany Cox), and the "Mother with the
Most Children Present" (Jean Sallee after choosing the number 10
out of 25). Several mothers were recognized as having children since the
last Mother's Day.
The monthly Business Meeting was held May 12, 2010. Jim Bob Moore
reported that the new part of the New Market Cemetery is being readied for
marking off into plots. The Transportation Committee reported that they
had been looking into the acquisition of the 15 passenger bus and report
that it would not be recommended to purchase a used vehicle. The committee
had Randy Herron (Mid-America Ambulance and Coach Company) make a
presentation as to what was available. He stated that a new 15 passenger
bus, depending on options, would cost in the high $40,000 range. The
Transportation Committee was asked to report back with quotes for various
options.
The monthly Business Meeting was held June 9, 2010. The Cemetery Committee
is beginning to start marking grave plots. They have marked 76 and hope to
have at least 576 plus when the process is completed. It was approved that
the church purchase a 15 passenger bus for $49,200.00 with a special
offering to be taken up to go toward payment of the van at a later date.
The van is expected to be ready in about 60 days. The Nominating Committee
was established: Bro. Vic Stansbury, Dennis Wise (Chairman
of the Deacons), Elizabeth Farmer (W.M.U. Director), Sam Graham
(Sunday School Director), Charlotte Benningfield, Kelly Carney,
Glenn Cox, and Betty Whitehouse. Approval was given to
purchase 3,000 gallons of gas (pre-paid at $1.79) for next winter. Gas
prices are expected to sky-rocket as a result of the tragic oil spill in
the Gulf. It was voted to pay for the food and gas for the mission trip to
Manchester, Kentucky and to give Joan Stansbury $300.00 to buy diapers for
the mission trip.
All the fathers that were present during the Morning Worship Service on

reported that 17 people representing Muldraugh Hill Baptist Church went to
Bradfordsville, Kentucky June 23 - 27, 2010 to work and help with the
clean up a house after the recent floods. They painted 3 porches and built
a porch. Tracy Cochran made a suggestion that the church work on
some Home Mission work for the elderly and homebound and to do
repairs/paint for the church. She said applications to request help could
be completed and submitted to her to present to a committee so work could
be planned. Willis Dietz presented a request to have the Middle
School and High School rooms in the basement be renovated with paint and
new furniture. A motion was made and approved to provide $1500 to be used
for this task under the direction of the Youth Advisory Committee. A
motion was made and carried to have the Trustee to evaluate and report
back the following: the removal of dead shrubbery and replace with proper
landscaping around the church foundation; cost of 4 - 5 trees, including
transplanting, along the front fence on North side of church.
The monthly Business Meeting was held August 4, 2010. Learned that the
arrival of the new church passenger bus has been delayed a month as parts
had to be ordered. The placement of the shrubbery and trees are delayed
until the temperature cools. Church cleanup day was July 31, 2010 with
approximately 30 people helping to pressure wash the outside, wash down
the pews with pledge, paint the door on the Fellowship Hall, mopped all
the Sunday School rooms and clean all the bathrooms. The

The monthly Business Meeting was held September 8, 2010. All of the lots
have been measured for New Market Cemetery (approximately 575 total).
Markers still need to be placed for the 4 sections. Also still need to
work on the rules and regulations for burial. The shrubbery has been
delayed further until the weather cools. A motion was made and approved to
give the oldest van at no cost other than the transfer fees to Stewarts
Creek Baptist Church as they are in need of a van and we don't need three
vans after the new one arrives. It is a 1994 model with approximately
65,000 miles and air conditioning that needs to be fixed. It was decided
that the following members will serve as messengers for the Associational
Meeting which takes place October 4th, 2010 at Woodlawn Baptist Church in
Lebanon: Bro. Vic Stansbury, Elizabeth Farmer, Arlene
Mullins, Joan Stansbury, Evelyn Burris, and Helen
Mays.
On Sunday, September 26, 2010, Willis Dietz announced his
resignation to be effective October 6th. He will be moving to
Nicholasville, Kentucky.
The
new church van arrived and was displayed for all to see on Sunday, October
3, 2010. A special offering was collected on Sunday, October 10th with
$2,984.95 received. The church name still needs to be added.
The monthly Business Meeting was held on October 6, 2010. The Music
Committee has decided to take bids on the old organ as they are unable to
locate another church home for it. Dennis Wise (Chairman of the
Deacons) made a motion (and it was approved) that the church give Bro.
Vic Stansbury $3,000 ($100 to represent each of the 30 years of
service at MHBC) with the money coming from the General Fund and presented
at a later date. Bro. Vic will be the pastor of Muldraugh Hill
Baptist Church 30 years on November 28, 2010. Bob Moore
mentioned the need for a shelter for the new van. It is to be discussed
with the Transportation Committee and recommendations brought before the
upcoming Business Meeting. Jim Sabo, Sr. mentioned the problems
with the sound system mixer. He is currently getting information on how to
repair it or possibly replace it.
The monthly Business Meeting was held on November 17, 2010. David
England was the winning bid for the organ at $551.00. Bro. Vic
was let in on a secret that has been going on for a few weeks. A "Secret"
Committee had been formed of Kaylene Poff, Ernest Taylor,
Melody Mays, Catherine Sabo, Kellie Wise, and Allison
Wise to organize a 30th Anniversary Celebration for Bro. Vic and Joan.
It will be the 21st beginning in the morning Worship Service and
continuing to a potluck meal and more speakers in the afternoon. A love
offering has been collected to be presented, along with the $3,000 voted
on in the last Business Meeting. Bro. Al Hardy will be the speaker in the
Morning Worship Service so Bro. Vic was informed that he will not have to
plan a sermon for Sunday. He and Joan can just sit back and enjoy the
message, entertainment, meal, and fellowship as we celebrate his big day.
The Lebanon Enterprise had a nice
article in the paper today about Bro. Vic. The Deacons made a
recommendation (it was voted on and approved) of members to serve on the
2011 Budget Committee. They are: Mark Speer, Adam Poff,
Joyce Payne, Melody Mays, Donna Wilcher, and Debbie
Farris (automatic as the Treasurer).
Bro. Vic
and Joan were honored on November 21, 2010 with a 30th Anniversary
Celebration of their years of service at MHBC. This was done during the
Morning Worship Service and extended in the afternoon with a potluck meal
and speakers. Cake, made by Clara Evans, was served with punch
after the meal. Bro. Al Hardy was the guest speaker during the Morning
Worship Service. Mark Carney was the Master of Ceremonies for the
event. The MHBC Adult Choir, The Sabo Family (Jim, Sr., Catherine, Jim,
Jr., Austin, and MaKayla), and Paul Helm performed special
music during the Morning Worship Service. Terry Cox (the first baby
born after Bro. Vic became the pastor of MHBC) rang the bell thirty
times instead of the usual 11. The children born since Bro. Vic
became the pastor of MHBC that were in attendance were recognized, as were
the couples married by Bro. Vic, and those that were baptized by
him. The Puppets performed during Children's Church. Kellie Wise
presented a card to Bro. Vic and Joan signed by all the
children and youth of the church. Kellie Wise and Allison Wise
presented a book filled with cards and letters and pictures taken through
the years. Melody Mays read a
poem and presented a inscribed necklace to Joan. Kaylene
Poff read a
message to Bro. Vic., then assisted Dennis Wise
(Chairman of the Deacons) by presenting Bro. Vic with a crystal
plaque noting his 30 years of service and a monetary gift of $3,000 from
the church with an additional love offering of $1,895.00. The Pulpit
Committee of 1980 were recognized (Sam Graham, Smith Mays,
Tommy Wilcher, David Veatch, and in memory of Raymond
England) and they (and their spouses) led Bro. Vic, Joan,
and family to the Fellowship Hall for the meal and rest of the service.
Ernest Taylor lead the prayer prior to the meal. After the meal, Bro.
John Chowning (pastor of Saloma Baptist Church and Vice President for
Church and External Relations at Campbellsville University), Jim Durham
(Minister of Music of Greensburg Baptist Church), Bro. J.W. Hatfield
(Pastor of Willisburg Baptist Church and Director of Missions for Central
Association), Dan Durham (Pastor of Stewart's Creek Baptist Church), Jon
Stansbury, and Chris Stansbury were guest speakers. A photographer was
present to document the event. Attached is the event
program that was provided to all in attendance. A detailed
program schedule
is attached that was used by the "Secret Committee". A
pictorial slideshow video of the event is available upon request and
can be viewed here.
The monthly Business Meeting was held on December 8, 2010. The 2011 budget
was presented by Melody Mays, a representative of the Budget
Committee, and was approved by those present. New business related to an
amendment of the Constitution and By-Laws regarding the purchase of items
costing greater than $10,000 was discussed and directed to the Committee
for further work.
On Sunday, December 19th, during the Morning Worship Service, $11,090.00
was given for the annual White Christmas Offering.
On Sunday, December, 19th, in the Evening Worship Service, "The Ornament
Musical Drama" was presented by the Muldraugh Hill Baptist Church Choir

introduction to the play. Adam Poff managed the audio for the
actors and choir; Josh Veatch managed the video; Kellie Wise
(with the assistance of Caroline Reed) managed the props; Bob
Moore designed the set (several men of the church assembled and
disassembled the set as needed); Thomas Poff managed the lighting;
the youth and children participated in the caroling scene. The actors were

(Lucas), Will Fowler (Charlie), Mark Speer (Jake), April
Biggs (Anne), Carrie Fowler (Shasta), Larry Bright
(Pastor), Mark Thomas (The Count), Ernest Carol Taylor

Keagan poster. The
serious Keagan Family Picture and
funny Keagan Family Picture can be viewed as well.
The monthly Business Meeting was held on January 5, 2011. Some old
business related to an amendment to the Constitution and By-Laws and new
business related to Guidelines for the Establishment of Emergency funds
were discussed but not finalized.
The church family was very saddened upon the death of June Farmer
Elliott on February 12, 2011 at the age of 57. She was a
pianist/organist for the church for many years. She also served as a
Sunday School teacher and on multiple committees. She sang in the adult
choir and helped with a lot of other church and community activities. She
will be greatly missed.
The monthly Business meeting for February had to be delayed a week due to
snow and hazardous driving conditions. It was held on February 16, 2011.
The
Constitution and By-Laws amendment was read for the last time and
approved. The requested revisions to the "Request for Emergency Funds"
document were reviewed and approved. It will show the guidelines on the
same document as the request. It will detail the money as it is requested,
provided, and excess returned (with receipts) and signatures of the
secretary/treasure, the requesting individual, and the approving
agency/person. Also, the Cemetery Committee presented the Guidelines for
the purchase of and use of the new addition to the New Market Cemetery
that they have been working on for the last two years. All of the plots
are mapped out in a binder for easy access. The guidelines were approved
for use from this point on with notation that the guidelines are subject
to change as needed by the Cemetery Committee. Jim Sabo, Sr. (the
Music Director) made a presentation of cost of new audio equipment (sound
system mixer) and, after much discussion, it was approved for him to
purchase a Peavy system for $2,099 plus $125 for a power protection unit.
It was also approved for Jim Sabo, Sr., Bob Moore, and
Sam Graham to rearrange the sound system in the balcony for improved
access and cosmetics. They will do some cabinetry work for storage of the
unit and necessary recording supplies.
Bro. Vic's younger brother by 18 months, Charles Franklin Stansbury, died
suddenly on March 4th (born February 21, 1947) of a heart attack. He was a
CPA in Moorehead but his funeral was held in Nelson County at New Salem
Baptist Church of Cox's Creek, Kentucky. He was buried a few yards from
where the Stansbury family was raised and close to where the house stood.
Bro. Vic's mother had sold the property to the church and a graveyard was
formed. Bro. Vic officiated his brother's funeral.
The monthly Business meeting for March was held on the 10th. It was noted
that the new audio mixer arrived last week and was used for the first time
last Sunday. The organ could be heard in the video with the new system.
The sound for this area has not been heard for some time on the old
system.
Youth Sunday was held March 13th. The youth were in charge of all the
services of the morning, including speaking and special music.
Men's Day was held March 27th. The men lead all of the services for the

Bartley, Stephanie Gay, and Sharon Ewing). Exie
Shively was recognized as being the oldest mother of MHBC (over 100).
She is unable to be present for the service as she is homebound. Her
daughter, Judy Benniningfield accepted a vase of flowers on her
behalf.
The monthly Business Meeting for May was held on the 11th. No changes were
made and no new items to discuss.
The monthly Business Meeting was held on June 8, 2011. The Deacons made a
recommendation and it was approved for the following people to serve on
the Nomination Committee: Ernest Carol Taylor, Sam Graham,
Elizabeth Farmer, Joyce Payne, Carol Reynolds,
Melody Mays, and Josh Veatch. Bro. Vic and Joan will be
sent as messengers to the Southern Baptist Convention in Phoenix, Arizona
beginning June 12, 2011. Joan Stansbury reported that there will be a
group from the church serving as missionaries to Athens, Alabama in July
to help rebuild a house damaged in the massive May tornadoes. The mission
group will be staying at a local Methodist church that will be providing 3
meals per day and a place to sleep free of charge. After some discussion,
it was decided that the church would make a donation of $50.00 per person
to the church and up to $400 for supplies such as paint, brushes, rollers,
etc. to help with the renovation costs of the damaged house. The week that
the group will be going is to to be determined once it is known when the

This years Bible School was entitled, "Big Apple Adventure: Where Faith
and life Connect". Children from preschool to 6th grade attended.
The Business Meeting for July was held on the 6th. Insurance has allowed
$31,500 to replace the roof on the church and parsonage. The trustees are
to get bids and were given the authority to proceed up to $41,000. They
will report back with findings.
On July 13, 2011, fifteen people traveled to Athens/Madison, Alabama for a
Mission Trip. Those who made the trip were:
Bro Vic & Joan;
Tracy & Avery Cochran;
Melody & Davette Mays;
Larry, Carol & Tabitha Reynolds;
Kelsey Thompson
(Stansbury granddaughter);
Kellie Wise;
Annette Dennison;
Obie Whitehead;
and
Steve & Carolyn Morris.
A report of the mission trip as described by Melody Mays:
"The Mission Team stayed at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in
Madison, AL. Facilities were the nicest we have EVER stayed in. That
church and neighboring churches prepared our meals for us (we had never
had that before).
Thursday morning we worked around the home
picking up trash, etc., waiting on dry wallers to get done in the house.
Joan went to Walmart and Sherwinn Williams to pick up all our supplies.
Thursday afternoon a group consisting of Joan, Carolyn, Tabitha, Avery,
Davette, Annette and Melody went to a local food bank On Friday, the team
caulked, primed and painted walls and woodwork in this approximately 1400
square ft. home. For a short time, a group in between rains, went to
another location to pick up debri. This group consisted of Kelsey,
Annette, Carolyn and Tabitha. Manna House – Huntsville’s Outreach With a
Heart to help deliver hundreds of sandwiches and other food to those
coming through the line. The others stayed at the house and got it ready
for us to start painting.
Bro Vic & Joan traveled back to Nashville
on Friday evening to deliver Kelsey for her ballgame on Saturday. The rest
of the team toured the areas of devastation on Saturday morning and
departed for their return trip home.
The house we worked on was the
home of a 66 year old Vietnam Veteran. "Sonny" was not a firm believer
before the tornado hit but was VERY TOUCHED by ALL the people who were
taking their time to come work on his home for him. He was living in a
FEMA trailer there on his property as the work was being competed on his
home. They were going to leave Sonny's home in ruins but since it was the
family homeplace and things just started falling into place with monetary
donations and volunteers they hope to have "Sonny" back in his home by mid
August."
Our oldest living church member, Exie Wise Shively, celebrated her
101st birthday on July 18, 2011. With the help of caregivers and her three
daughters (Barbara Jean Benningfield, Mary Frances Veatch
and Judy Shively Benningfield) she is able to be in her home.
Although Ms. Exie is bedridden, her mind is brilliant and she continues to
be a blessing to all who visit her. Ms. Exie has six grandchildren:
Donnie Veatch, Jean Veatch Sallee, Keith Benningfield,
Kelly Benningfield Carney, Gary Benningfield, and Glenn
Benningfield. She has 17 great grandchildren and 8 great-great
grandchildren. Another great-great grandson is due to arrive September 1,
2011.
A group of ten people took a journey to Manchester, KY on August 1, 2011
to deliver a trailer load of clothing to God’s Closet. Thanks to
Campbellsville University for the use of their trailer. Those going were:
Bro Vic and Joan; Betty Whitehouse; Melody Mays;
Shirley & Kaitlyn Farmer; Dana & Isabella Hayden; Arlene
Mullins, and Faye Porter. The mission team also stayed late
afternoon to help hand out approximately 175 book bags with school
supplies to the children of Clay County. This program was also
administered by God’s Closet.
We want to welcome Caleb and Savannah Browning to the Muldraugh
Hill Baptist Church family. Caleb is our Minister of Youth
beginning August, 2011. Caleb is from Owensboro, Kentucky and a
second year student at Campbellsville University.
The monthly Business Meeting for August was held on August 10, 2011. (1)
The Trustee report regarding the roof on the church and parsonage as
discussed last month was presented by Bob Moore. He reported they
had 4 bids ranging from $36,000 to $38,000 and it will cost an estimated
$1,500 to remove and replace the steeple. Bob thinks the insurance will
cover the steeple 100%. There is a possibility of added expense if any of
the sheeting needs to be replaced and some of that is expected. He will
have the lowest bidder, Terry Gootee, do the work and he expects to be
able to start on it in the next 2 1/2 - 3 weeks. The church asks that it
not be worked on if there is a funeral service or something else going on
and also to try to be done by September 3rd when the Associational Sing
will take place at the church. (2)
The Nominating Committee presented their report for the coming year (done
by Sam Graham). Mark Speer will be a new Deacon and
therefore have to be ordained. The report was approved by those present.
(3) Joan Stansbury gave a report of the Mission Trip to Athens,
Alabama.

(1) The ordination service for Mark Speer will take place September
25, 2011 in the Evening Worship Service. (2) The following people were
nominated and approved to serve as messengers to the October 3rd
Associational Meeting to be held at the church: Bro. Vic Stansbury,
Joan Stansbury, Elizabeth Farmer, Arlene Mullins, and Jim Sabo, Sr.
(3) The roof was replaced on the church and parsonage last week. $17,000
was paid this month and approximately $20,000 to be paid next month. (4)
The ballasts were fixed in the Fellowship Hall and are now working well.
(5) The Trustees (represented by a report by Ernest Carol Taylor
for them) explains that over $5,800 is due for the gas for the church for
this coming season. The church has been pre-paying for 3,000 gallons and
had $195 left over from last year. The rate for the gas if pre-pay this
year is $199.9/gallon (it was $1.79.9/gallon last year). The members voted
to continue with the pre-payment as the cost of gas is not expected to go
down, but will probably go up and each time the tank is filled it would
have to be at the present rate if do not do the pre-payment. (6)
Catherine Sabo made a motion that the church provide the meat for the
Golden Days Group Meetings every other month. This was approved by the
members present.

present voted to accept the budget as presented.
The Christmas Cantata was presented by the Muldraugh Hill Adult Choir on
December 18, 2011 during the Morning Worship Service. Also the Annual
White Christmas Offering was collected. The total amount donated (some
designated to specific funds such as mission offering, cemetery fund,
elevator fund, youth, insurance, AWANA, Operation Christmas Child, and
utilities) was $17,011.00. This was Bro. Vic and Joan's 32nd
Christmas with us. A love offering was collected and presented to him, the
custodians (Anita and Burnam Lanham), the secretary (Debbie
Farris), the Song Leader (Jim Sabo, Sr.), the Youth Director (Caleb
Browning), and the musicians (Wanda Buckler, Annette Dennison,
Amanda Farmer, and Martha Whitehouse).
The Annual Christmas Eve Candlelight Service was held on December 24, 2011

William R. Beard
(click for biographical details) died December 29, 2011. He was the
eighteenth pastor of Muldraugh Hill Baptist Church.

discussed and no new changes noted.
The monthly Business Meeting was held February 9, 2012. (1) It was noted
that Men's Day will take place on March 25, 2012. (2) David Veatch,
as a representative of the Cemetery Committee, praised the dedication and
work of Ray Stapp as he served on the Cemetery Committee and other
aspects of the church. He died January 13, 2012. He said he will be missed
greatly. He made a recommendation to add Bob Moore to the Cemetery
Committee. Four members of the Nominating Committee were present at the
meeting so they presented the recommendation to the church and he was
accepted to the position. (3) David Veatch also asked that the
church make use of the $6,371.29 in the Cemetery Fund that is in excess of
the $50,000 saved in Certificates of Deposit, to be used immediately for
the care and upkeep of the cemeteries. This is instead of paying for this
out of the general fund. This and interest earned is supposed to be used
for this purpose but has been accumulating in the bank. The church decided
to let the Banking Committee look into how this should be set up to make
sure it is used toward this purpose. (4) Mark Carney made a
presentation regarding the Tasting Bash for the benefit of
Habitat for Humanity. The church voted to make a donation of $100 plus
take up a love offering next Sunday to give to this cause.
The monthly Business Meeting was held March 7, 2012. (1) It was noted that
the total amount given to the Habitat for Humanity was $295.00. (2)
Carol Reynolds asked about money being designated by individuals to
the AWANA program. It does not show on the Treasure's Report. The members
of the Banking Committee will discuss with the church Secretary/Treasure
to add this group to the bottom of the Treasure's report as a designated
group along with the other designations. The church discussed the need to
utilize the designated funds as appropriate and show this on the
Treasure's Report. The Banking Committee with work on getting this process
started too. (3) Joan Stansbury and others discussed doing
something for those affected by the recent storms and devastating
tornadoes in Kentucky and Indiana. Joan made a motion and the church
approved the motion to send $1,000 plus a "Free-Will" offering collected
after a Morning Worship Service to either First Baptist East Bernstadt
Church (through Drucie Graham) or to the Kentucky Baptist Disaster Relief
Fund. Joan Stansbury was elected to follow through with getting
this accomplished.
Youth Sunday was March 18, 2012. The youth were in charge of all the
services during the Morning Worship Service.

A Women's Retreat was held Friday, March 30th at 6:00 pm through Saturday,
March 31, 2012 late afternoon at 274 Shreveport Drive in Campbellsville,
Kentucky. It was a time of fun, fellowship, and an in-depth Bible study.
The Bible study material used was: "Esther - It's Tough Being a Woman",
written by Beth Moore. The study led the women through a journey of
tragedy and triumph, teaching them how to trust God's providence for the
tough times in life. It showed how an Old Testament story applies to
modern day life. The women were invited to bring their sleeping bags and
spend the night or leave Friday night after the session and come back on
Saturday morning.
On Palm Sunday, April 1st, the Sanctuary Choir presented our Easter
Cantata, O What a Savior", in the Morning Worship Service.
We had an Easter Sunrise Service on April 8, 2012 along with the Morning
Worship Service at 11:00.
The monthly Business Meeting was held on April 11, 2012. (1) It was noted
that the Treasure Report now reflects the designated funds such as: AWANA,
G.A., Youth, and Elevator. (2) It was also noted that the $1,000 donated
by MHBC last month to be used for the victims of the devastating
tornadoes was actually presented to Arthur Ridge Baptist Church (instead
of First Baptist East Bernstadt Church) because it is in the region being
helped. This money was used to feed the victims. Also there was $455
collected by MHBC members and $100 was donated from a member of the
community. It was requested by Arthur Ridge Baptist Church for MHBC
to use this $555 to purchase household items locally and take them to the
area of need because the stores are depleted of these items in that
region. Joan Stansbury made the purchases.

in the old fellowship hall where an audio video feed was played for them
of the service. A police escort led and followed the funeral procession
throughout Lebanon to the county line and at the intersection in
Springfield as it proceeded to the gravesite at New Salem Baptist Church
in Nelson County. The cemetery is on land that used to belong to the
Stansbury family where Bro. Vic grew up and the land was later
given to the church by the family. Bro. Vic was buried next to his brother
Charles who had died in March.

retroactive beginning September 1st with a salary of $500 per week. This
would cover 3 services per week, pastoral duties, and visitation. It was
also recommended he be paid 50 cents per mile for traveling from his home
to the church or for church related travels such as visitation. The
recommendation was presented as a motion, it was voted on, and approved.

(Budget) Committee for 2013: Ernest Carol Taylor, Larry Bright,
Dennis Wise, Faye Porter, and Stacey Bartley (Bro.

Burnam Lanham $780.00 for the mowing of the parsonage.
The monthly Business Meeting was held December 5, 2012. Ernest Carol
Taylor served as the Moderator. A recommendation was presented by the
deacons, it was voted on and approved, for the following: The fellowship
hall to be named "Rev. Victor J. Stansbury Fellowship Hall"; the
portrait of Bro. Vic, presented by the family last month, to be moved to
the fellowship hall foyer; and two plaques be hung, one in the foyer under
Bro. Vic's portrait and the other outside at the entrance to the
fellowship hall, to commemorate this action. Roger Barnett shared a
tentative design of the plaques made out of bronze that would cost
approximately $650 each. Bro. Vic's family has been included in all the
discussion and will help with the exact wording on the plaques. There is a
tentative plan to have all Bro. Vic's family present on January 13, 2012
for a combination dedication ceremony and annual birthday celebration.
The Annual White Christmas Offering was collected on December 23th, 2012
during the Morning Worship Service. Those giving were able to designate
specific funds for their donation. The total amount received was
$15.673.00. Members filed by a little white wooden church to deposit
their gift. Bonnie Wicker and Estelle Brady sang for the
special music. A special love offering of appreciation was collected and
given to the following for their hard work and dedication the past year:
Bro. Steve and Shirley Skaggs, the Church Secretary (Debbie
Farris), the Song Leader (Jim Sabo, Sr.), the Youth Leader (Caleb
Browning), the custodian (Anita Lanham), and the musicians (Wanda

Muldraugh Hill Baptist Church was the recipient of a sum of money as
designated in the will of Margaret Nelson. On December 30, 2012, Ernest
Taylor, along with Joyce Payne, made the presentation of $44,
774.81 to the Chairman of the Deacons, Roger Barnett, and the
church secretary, Debbie Farris.
The monthly Business Meeting was held January 9, 2013. Ernest Carol
Taylor served as the Moderator. It was a very busy night. Several
items were discussed: (1) A snow cancellation plan was announced by
Roger Barnett. The decision on Sunday mornings regarding cancelling
Sunday School and/or Worship Service will be made and announced between
8:00 and 8:30 am. It will be announced on the Campbellsville radio
stations Q-104 and 1450 and placed on Steve Skaggs Facebook page.
The decision will be made for the Sunday night or Wednesday night services
at least 60 minutes in advance of the start time and announced the same
way. Also utilization of the "MHBC Tree" will be made in which persons are
called in a spreading message chain. (2) More people are needed to help
with Children's Church. Volunteers can sign up for as few as one time to
serve. The schedule does not rotate. Please contact Jessica
Benningfield, McKenzie Hardin, or Sharon Reed for more
information. (3) There are only 3 people signed up for the nursery during
the Morning Worship Service. This does rotate so the more people that will
volunteer the less often the volunteers will have to fill in. (4) Steve
Skaggs announced that Joan Stansbury and her children will be
cleaning up the parsonage on Martin Luther King weekend and volunteers are
needed to help with this project. (5) Josh Veatch made a motion, it
was voted on and approved to designate a fund called the Cemetery Fund in
which persons may make donations and the money will be used toward
maintenance of the cemeteries. This would take effect from the date of the
White Christmas Offering in which $1,020 was given and earmarked for the
Cemetery Fund. This is in excess of the $50,000 already in an account to
cover perpetual care. (6) Catherine Sabo made a motion, it was
voted on and approved for the church to donate 10 pizzas and desserts,
made by the ladies of the church, to Campbellsville University to be used
for the Commuting Students on 1/16/2013 in front of Ransdell Chapel. This
is a weekly service that various churches and organizations participate
in. (7) Roger Barnett made a presentation regarding the need to
develop a Pastor Search (Pulpit) Committee to start the process of
searching for a new pastor. A handout was given out specifying the
details. The handout was discussed, a motion was made, it was voted on and
approved to start the process as follows:
All church members are encouraged to be a part of the selection process by
placing in nomination individuals to serve on the committee. To place a
church member in nomination it must be confirmed first that the individual
is willing to serve if selected. After writing their name(s) in blanks on
the submission form, the paper is to be placed in the receptacle located
in the vestibule. The last date to place a person in nomination will be
January 27, 2013 during the Morning Worship Service.
After this date, all nominees will be placed on a ballot. At Sunday
Morning Worship on February 3, 2013, the list of all nominees on the
ballot will be announced. All church members are asked to pray over the
list throughout that week.
At the beginning of Sunday Morning Worship Service on February 10, 2013, a
special meeting will be called for the purpose of formulating the Pastor
Search (Pulpit) Committee. The deacons will distribute the ballots to each
church member. The ballots will have instructions: (to vote for any five,
any ballot containing more than five votes will be disallowed). After
allowing time for the members to make their selections, the ballots will
be collected. The Deacons will, then, count the votes. The five people
receiving the largest number of votes will constitute the Pastor Search
(Pulpit) Committee. The results of the vote will be announced at the end
of the worship service.
(8) Roger Barnett made a presentation regarding the Margaret Nelson
Bequest (presented to the church in December) and reported that decisions
of how to use any amount of money above the amount of $25,000 has to be
voted on by the church in a special called meeting. The date of the
special called meeting would be announced in advance from the pulpit. The
Deacons are recommending the money be used toward the Elevator Fund which
would allow work to begin on the project since the total amount in the
fund would exceed the specified $50,000 needed to start the project.
Addendum: The vote for the Margaret Nelson Bequest was held on January 20,
2013 during the Morning Worship Service. The final total was 129 for and
17 against so the money will, therefore, be added to the existing Elevator
Fund.
A rededication ceremony to name the church fellowship hall the
"Rev. Victor J. Stansbury Fellowship Hall" was held on Sunday,
February 3, 2013, after the Morning Worship Service. The Stansbury Family
(Joan, Vickie Thompson and family, Chris Stansbury and family, and Jon
Stansbury and family) were here for this dedication ceremony and two
plaques were unveiled. Chris and Jon unveiled the plaque
above the entrance of the Fellowship Hall. Joan and Vickie
unveiled the plaque and portrait of Bro.Vic that hangs in the foyer. The
Annual Church-wide Birthday Celebration took place immediately following
the ceremony. The meal was potluck with the church furnishing the meat. Picture
below submitted by Catherine Sabo.
On Sunday, February 3, 2013, the members received an insert in the
bulletin with the following notice:
On Sunday morning, February 10, 2013, a special meeting will be called to
vote for the members of the Pastor Search (Pulpit) Committee. The ballots
will have instructions to vote for up to five (5). Any ballot
containing more than five votes will be disallowed. The five people
receiving the largest number of votes will constitute the Pastor Search
(Pulpit) Committee. The results of the vote will be announced at the end
of the service. Please pray over the list of nominees throughout the
week. They are as follows (in alphabetical order): Lequita
Barnett, Jason Benningfield, Nettie Brown, Caleb Browning, Mark Carney,
Tracy Cochran, David England, Debbie Farris, Sam Graham, David Mays,
Melody Mays, Bob Moore, Steve Morris, Carol Reynolds, Larry Reynolds, Jim
Sabo, Jr., John Sparrow, Mark Speer, Greg Taylor, Linda Taylor, Curtis
Tindle, and Jessica Veatch. (In the event of inclement weather, the
special meeting date may be changed.)
The regular monthly Business Meeting was held on February 6, 2013.
Ernest Carol Taylor served as the Moderator. David Veatch,
representing the Cemetery Committee, reported that the New Market Cemetery
was in need of 4 section markers that he would like labeled A, B, C, D and
with Muldraugh Hill Baptist Church noted on them in some form. He
described them as being like foot stones and estimated the cost to be
about $125 each. The cemetery is also in need of hiring a backhoe for no
more than two hours, at a estimated cost of $75-$100 per hour to remove
some field tile and a big stump. It was noted by Donnie Veatch that
there is already $1,020 allotted to the cemetery fund which could be used
for this project since it's not expected to go over $1,000. No other new
business was discussed.
On Sunday, February 10, 2013, a special meeting, with Ernest Carol
Taylor serving as the Moderator, was called for the purpose of voting
to select the five members of the Pastor Search (Pulpit) Committee. The
ballots were passed out to all church members as they stood during the
Morning Worship Service. They were asked to circle 5 names from the list
of nominees and then the 5 names with the most votes would serve on the
Committee. If more than 5 names were circled on a ballot, that ballot
would not be counted. The names of those selected to serve on the
Committee were announced at the end of Worship Service and were: Mark
Carney, David England, Bob Moore, Jim Sabo, Jr., and Mark Speer.
The regular monthly Business Meeting was held on March 6, 2013. Ernest
Carol Taylor served as the Moderator. (1) One Old Business item was
reported completed by Bob Moore. The sound system cabinet is now in
place in the balcony. Also, regarding a second Old Business item, David
England, as a representative of the Elevator Committee, said they have
one bid and are awaiting two more that will be presented to the church at
a later date regarding installing the elevator. Regarding a third Old
Business item, David England, as a representative of the Pastor
Search Committee, says the group has met 3 times but do not have
recommendations at this time. (2) Men's Day will be on April 14th this
year. (3) Tracy Cochran made a presentation to the church, followed
by a motion, that the church have some art canvases made with the Ten
Commandments painted on them and having them hung on the long wall in the
old fellowship hall where AWANA meets. She said they were expected to cost
$350 and would also like to paint the wall and the nursery at the same
time. The motion was voted on and approved to have it done with Tracy
being responsible for the process. (4) Mark Carney made a
presentation regarding purchasing 2 racks to hang the folding chairs on,
when the chairs are not in use, in the Fellowship Hall. Each rack would
hold up to 84 chairs at a cost of $583.74 for the pair. A motion was made
to follow through with this purchase. The motion was voted on and approved
with Mark Carney making the purchase and placing them in the
Fellowship Hall.
The regular monthly Business Meeting was held on April 10, 2013. Ernest
Carol Taylor served as the Moderator. (1) As Old Business, David
England, as a representative of the Elevator Committee, said they are
waiting for a third quote from a company in Louisville before they would
make any recommendations to the church. (2) David England, as a
representative of the Pastor Search "Pulpit" Committee, reports that the
committee have met several times, spending several hours gathering
information from church records to form a job description that includes
duties of the pastor, vacation and other benefits, goals for the church,
etc. They have reviewed all the resumes presented to the church. They have
been overwhelmingly encouraged by multiple members of the church to
consider the Interim Pastor, Steve Skaggs, for the position. The
committee has had meetings with Bro. Steve, asking in-depth questions
during the interview process regarding aspects of the job description and
theological ideals with regard for the future and goals for the church.
The committee would like to recommend Bro. Steve as the next pastor of
Muldraugh Hill Baptist Church and made a motion to that. Discussion
was entertained by various members present and it was reported that, in
the process of looking into the need for a new pastor, a problem was
identified regarding the parsonage. Apparently, the foundation is in
desperate need of immediate reinforcement and stabilization with a
"dead man anchor" due to two leaning walls in the basement. There are
multiple other repairs that need to be considered that is causing uneven
floors and other problems. The Trustees, Deacons, Pulpit Committee, and
experts such as architects and construction contractors, have deemed the
house uninhabitable until the repairs are made. This problem will have to
be looked into further. As per the motion by David England, this
meeting will be continued, according to the Constitution and By-laws, on
Sunday morning during Morning Worship Service. The "Pulpit Committee" will
report to the church body their recommendation and then on the following
Sunday in a "Special Called Meeting" the vote will be taken regarding
asking Bro. Steve Skaggs to become the next pastor of Muldraugh
Hill Baptist Church. The Constitution requires a "yes" vote of 75%.
Bro. Steve will then be allowed time to make known his decision to
the church whether he will accept this position. The "Pulpit Committee"
reports also that they and Bro. Steve will be inviting members of
the congregation to a meeting on Sunday evening, April 14th, where they
will entertain questions toward the committee and/or Bro. Steve
regarding this important position. (3) New Business: Roger Barnett,
Chairman of the Deacons, reports that the church has a "Zero Turn" mower
that Bro. Vic had been using to mow the yard around the parsonage.
Volunteers have been keeping the mowing up since his death. Due to
liabilities with the use of the mower, Roger made a motion that the
church hire Burnam Lanham to mow the parsonage yard at a rate of
$65 per mowing, furnishing his own equipment. There was some discussion
and it was noted that, should the new pastor want to do his own mowing,
the contract with Burnam Lanham would cease. This motion was voted
on and approved. The Business Meeting was recessed to be continued on
Sunday, April 14th, and conclude in the "Special Called Meeting" with the
vote on April 21, 2013.
The Business Meeting returned from recess during the Morning Worship
Service on April 14, 2013. Ernest Carol Taylor, as Moderator of the
meeting, informed the church as follows: There will be a church wide vote
by all church members to call Bro. Steve Skaggs as our pastor next
Sunday morning, April 21st, during our Morning Worship Service.
Please be in prayer that God will lead, guide and direct us in this vote
and that His will be done at this important time in our church. Any
questions pertaining to this can be directed to the Moderator of the
Business Meeting, Ernest Carol Taylor (Phone: 699-2786), or to any
of the members of the Pastor Search Committee: Mark Carney (Phone:
465-9154), Bob Moore (Phone: 572-9651), Mark Speer (Phone:
465-1300), Jim Sabo, Jr. (Phone: 789-2440), or David England
(Phone: 465-1400).
We had our annual "Men's Day" on April 14, 2013 beginning with a breakfast
for the men and boys. The men were in charge of the Sunday School and
Worship Services. The choir was comprised solely of men and provided a
special music song. David England shared his talents on the piano
and organ, Paul Helm shared special music on the piano. Steve
Skaggs performed special music vocally and on the piano per special
request of his wife, Shirley, of "Come to Jesus". Dennis Wise
delivered the morning message of "Keep Your Focus on God" and David
Veatch delivered the evening message of "The river that runs from the
throne of God" and he challenged everyone to be better witnesses to those
we come in contact with.
Youth Sunday at Muldraugh Hill Baptist Church was on April 21,
2013. Members of youth, under the direction of the Youth Minister,
Caleb Browning, led the children's church sermon by explaining how to
get to heaven during a "The Price is Right" skit. Amanda Livers
performed special music in song with Bro. Steve Skaggs accompanying
her at the piano. The youth served as ushers for the collection of the
offering and Erin Cox was the speaker.
The Business Meeting returned from recess during the Morning Worship
Service on April 21, 2013. The church-wide vote was completed according to
the Constitution and By-Laws. The final results were 176 "yes" and 23 "no"
votes or 88.4% in favor of calling Bro. Steve Skaggs as the next
pastor of Muldraugh Hill Baptist Church. Seventy-five percent was
required. Bro. Steve, after prayerful consideration, will let
the church know if he accepts this call. The Business Meeting was
adjourned after reporting of the results of the vote.
It
was announced on April 29, 2013 during the Morning Worship Service that
Bro. Steve Skaggs has accepted the call to be our new pastor. There
will be a brief Installation Service at the end of next Sunday's Morning
Worship Service on May 5th. Immediately following the service we would
like to have a meal to welcome Bro. Steve and Shirley. The church will
furnish the meat and the rest is pot luck.
Bro. Steve Skaggs
was installed as the new pastor of Muldraugh Hill Baptist Church
during the Morning Worship Service on May 5, 2013. David England
referenced the passage of scripture (Matthew 11:28-30) used by Bro. Vic
Stansbury in his last sermon on July 29, 2012. David
specifically noted how “Take My Yoke Upon You…” is a challenge, ordained
by God, that has been passed from Bro. Vic to Bro. Steve to
lead the church forward in its service of God as it shares the message of
God and continues to be a lighthouse for the community. Avery and
Laurel Cochran performed special music, “Live Like That” prior to the
message given by Bro. Steve called, “Experiencing God”. Bro.
Steve’s daughter-in-law, Melissa Skaggs, sang, “Take My Life and Let
It Be” after the Covenant of Service Installation was completed.

Pastor Search Committee and Bro. Steve Skaggs
(Bob Moore, Jim Sabo, Jr., Bro. Steve, Mark Speer, Mark Carney, and David
England
The regular monthly Business Meeting was held on May 8, 2013. (1) David
England, representing the Elevator Committee, updated the progress of
the committee. There have been three bids submitted. Each of the bids are
unique in their recommendations. The committee has had Barry Blevins
Construction Company to evaluate the church and the three bids. He will
return with his recommendation that would best fit the churches situation.
(2) David England, as the Chairman of the Pastor Search Committee,
submitted paperwork (Senior Pastor Job Description and the Covenant
Between Muldraugh Hill Baptist Church and the Reverend Steve Skaggs)
and made a motion that these items be added to the minutes and by
reference. It could be used to meet future needs as well. This paperwork
was established after much research while preparing for and following
through with the search for a pastor. One item to be amended is the
mileage from .50 to .55 as the Budget Committee increased it to that rate
in January. This motion was voted on and approved. (3) McKenzie Farris
Hardin made a motion that Muldraugh Hill Baptist Church establish a
Facebook account and she would be willing to manage the information that
would be viewed on the pages such as upcoming events. After some
discussion of what information should be carefully posted, the motion was
voted on and approved.
Muldraugh Hill Baptist Church
celebrated
Mother's Day on Sunday, May 12th by having a light breakfast in the
Fellowship Hall for the ladies and girls of our church. In the Morning
Worship Service all the mothers present were presented with a purse
manicure set with "Blessed Is the Mother Who Walks With God". Nettie Brown
provided special music. Special recognition was given to the oldest mother
(Clara Evans), youngest mother (Sidney Cox) and the mother
with the most children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren present (Clara
Evans and Judy Farmer). Also, the new mothers since last
Mother's Day were presented with carnations: Beth Benedict, Sidney Cox,
Mindy Bright, Natalie Hamilton, and Stephanie Talbert. There
were 144 in Sunday School and and estimated 296 in Worship Service.
Congratulations to to all those graduating from High School and College!
See Attachment. The graduates were treated to a special meal at
Creekside Restaurant on May 28.
On Sunday, May 26, 2013, there was a special Memorial Day Service honoring
our servicemen and also recognizing those who had passed away in the past
year. Prayers are with the family of all those remembered.

The regular monthly Business Meeting was held on June 5, 2013. (1)The
Trustees, Bob Moore, Steve Morris, and Larry Reynolds,
presented information related to the old business of needing to replace
the 21 year old air condition system for the church. There are presently
now two units. Bids have been taken from two local businesses to replace
the two units and they both recommended the addition of two more units (a
total of four to better supply the needs of the church). The bids varied
from $19,200 to $27,900 depending on if install dual fuel systems which
are more costly in the beginning but are more efficient and less costly
ongoing. A motion was made and seconded to replace the two present units
and add two more dual fuel units for total of $27,900. Because the cost is
more than $25,000, and according to the Constitution and By-Laws, this
motion will have to be presented to the church congregation for a vote.
The notice will be placed in the bulletin next Sunday with the vote to be
held June 16, 2013. (2) The Chairman of the Deacons, Roger Barnett,
as a representative of the deacons, made a recommendation of the following
people to serve on the Nominating Committee for 2013-2014: Kim McCubbin,
Mark Speer, McKenzie Hardin, Josh Veatch, the Sunday School Director (Sam
Graham), the WMU Director (Elizabeth Farmer), the Chairman of
the Deacons (Sam Graham), and the pastor (Bro. Steve Skaggs).

Vacation Bible School was held for children from June 10-14, 2013. There
were 100 and above students and above 50 workers present on each night
except Friday night when there were 86 children. Praise God for this
wonderful attendance and participation. The goal was to receive $300
during the week to send 100% to provide assistance through the Southern
Baptist Convention to help the victims of the Oklahoma tornadoes in May.
That goal was surpassed with over $650 collected. Another $400 was
collected on Parents Night, June 15th, with the final total over $1100.
There were about 300 people present for the Parent's Night activities in
which the students performed, received their certificates, and enjoyed a
time of food and fellowship afterwards. As a reward for reaching the
monetary goal, the students were allowed to throw water balloons at Bro.
Steve.

Muldraugh Hill Baptist Church. There were around over 80 men in
attendance. Many used their favorite scatterguns to bust some clays; some
just watched the action from lawn chairs. A meal of fried fish and all the
trimmings was enjoyed after the shoot. What a great time of fun and
fellowship!
There was a Deacon Ordination Service on Sunday Night, August 25th, for
Steve Morris and Josh Veatch.
There

and people in her life including her dad and daughter, and how God was
there through it all.

Western Recorder publication and newsletter will be sent out to members
beginning in June. Super Attendance Sunday and the Easter Cantata by the

Pennsylvania trip next week. He is still working on getting a mission trip
formed for this summer. The History Committee is working on activities for
the 140 Anniversary coming up in November. (2) In New Business,

stabilized and considered safe by the Trustees. A building contactor and
architect still suggest doing a "dead man anchor" to support it further
but they are not looking to pursue this avenue. Steve made a motion to

position immediately while in the process of searching for a new Minister
of Youth. This motion was approved after reviewing the job description as
lay out by the Personnel Committee. Another motion was made that this be a
paid position instead of volunteer as it has been done in the past and
suggested a monetary amount of $125 per week. This motion was voted on and
approved. A third motion was made to hire Erin Cox to
serve in this interim position as she has expressed she would be willing
to do this. This motion was voted on and approved. (4) Also in New
Business, Steve Morris gave a report regarding the need
for computer software to keep track of members, addresses, and other
church details. After much research, he suggests a software package used
by Elkhorn Baptist Church called Servant Keeper and the one time license
fee for 3 computers (specifically for the computers of Bro. Steve,
Charlotte Benningfield, and Debbie Farris) would cost under
$1,000. There is a training for use of this software taking place in
Louisville in June with this reduced rate. He made a motion that we
purchase this software. This motion was voted on and approved. (4)
McKenzie Farris Hardin reports that she talked to the Youth
Minister at Lebanon Baptist Church and that she has some terrific ideas
that she would be glad to discuss with our Personnel Committee, pastor,
and Interim Youth Minister if desired. Bro. Steve said he
will look into getting this arranged.

in an area that has a very big need. (4) In new Business, Sam
Graham, Chairman of the Deacons, made a recommendation with a
motion to purchase a notebook computer for Debbie Farris,
