James Washington "J. W." Crawley
(Pastor of MHBC from 1903 - 1912)

Only limited personal information was available on Bro. Crawley's life, as follows:

James Washington Crawley was born to Washington Morris and Mary Jane Crawley in 1853, in Green County, Kentucky. He was educated in the public schools and taught in Hart County Schools before entering the ministry.

We have no knowledge of the date or place of his conversion or his call to the ministry.

He was married to Susan Ellen Tisdale, and to this union three daughters and five sons were born: Bertha, Alva, Lucy, Carson, Morris, Henry, Dennis, and Sam Crawley.

After entering the ministry, Bro. Crawley attended Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, Ky. He helped to constitute five churches, in addition to Muldraugh Hill which he pastored from 1903-1911. He pastored several other churches in this area, including Stewarts Creek.

He served his Lord faithfully until he was called into His presence on January 7, 1917. He was buried in Brookside Cemetery in Campbellsville, Kentucky.

All the information above is taken from the 125th Anniversary Book published in 1999
